His swabs for ear dangerous?

His swabs for ear dangerous?
Ear cleaning is not necessary with a cotton swab and can even be dangerous. So says the American Association of nose and throat Hearing experts (American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Foundation) in a new opinion on the treatment of ear wax and ear plugs.
Also ear candling or -kegels are strongly recommended not to clean the ears.

Not necessary

It is not necessary to remove earwax. On the one hand it has a number of useful properties, and on the other hand the wax is normally a matter removed. Even in children's wax required for a harmonious balance in the ear canal. Only the cleaning of visible earwax may be done.
• Earwax protects the skin of the ear canal from drying out.
• It is acidic so that it protects against bacteria and fungi.
• Because it is oily, it protects against humidity.
• It captures dust, dirt, microorganisms and other foreign particles, so that does not continue to go in the ear, where they could do damage.
• Usually the excess wax is removed by itself after some time. The wax dries, making the kibble. Moving the jaw by chewing, yawning, talking ... and skin growth usually ensure that the wax itself leaves the ear.

Dangerous

Cotton swabs may also be dangerous. Possible risks include:
• damage to the delicate skin of the ear, causing an ear infection;
• of the eardrum damage;
• increased risk of oorprop because the wax is pushed deeper rather than removed in the ear;
• impaired production of earwax, which you will produce more earwax.

Even more dangerous than swabs are a pencil, ballpen, hairpin, match, paper clip, toothpick, key and so on. Cleaning also with the fingertips or nails are strongly advised against.

What if you do use a cotton swab?

If you do use a cotton swab, only the wax that is visible are removed in the outer ear and the opening of the ear canal. The cotton plume must always be visible in its entirety. In this way, the smallest risk that you are going too deeply and push earwax deeper. The swab should never be placed in the ear canal.
